Farebrother Trophy Heads To Nadi After Four-Year Lapse

Four years of waiting for Jack’s Nadi to challenge Farebrother Trophy ended on a high note yesterday.
This was after the jetsetters won the coveted silverware beating champs Naitasiri 14-10 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.
Comments: Nadi head coach Ponijese Lutuiri said: “On paper we knew we can’t beat them but on game day I believe the players would deliver a positive result and I thank the players for their hardwork.
“The players knew we have no trophies in our cabinet and we thank our fans for their support.”
Naitasiri captain Inoke Tuisese acknowledged their supporters and Nadi for a great game and wished them well against BLK Nadroga.
“I thank all our supporters and also to Nadi for a great game. In the end there will be only one winner.”
What happened: Despite the heavy ground condition the two teams displayed entertaining rugby.
Naitasiri scored first in the 10th minute following a concerted forwards effort resulting in Inoke Tuisese scoring the first try, which was converted by Kini Douglas.
Nadi lifted their game momentum and strengthened their defence line as centre Aminio Naseyara scored their first try following an intercept; converted by Kavekini Varo.
Halftime: Nadi 7-7 Naitasiri
Heavy downpour continued to disrupt game plans in the second half, but Naitasiri maintained composure and took the lead with a penalty from Douglas, 10-7.
The jetsetters regrouped and great effort from the backline saw them break through the Naitasiri defence to score their second try through Jiutasa Varo, following a cross kick from Kavekini Varo who also kicked the conversion, 14-10.
Big Play: Nadi played a gutsy performance which disrupted Naitasiri’s game plan
Nadi will play BLK Nadroga in the second challenge of the Farebrother Trophy at Prince Charles Park on Saturday.
