Rokomatu Scores Twice In Yasawa’s Successful Defence Of Bainimarama Shield

Winger Inia Rokomatu scored two tries as Yasawa Marlins retained the Bainimarama Shield with 31-3 hammering of Ovalau at the Churchill Park, Lautoka last night.

Rokomatu who has been in top form this season, scored his first try in the 3rd minute to lead 5-0.

Three minutes later Ovalau Joe Sesevu kicked a penalty to close the gap 5-3.

In the 17th minute Rokomatu scored his second try. Not too long Ovalau first five eighth Joe Sesevu was sin-binned by referee Tevita Rokovereni.

Halftime: Yasawa 10-3 Ovalau.

Ovalau came back firing in the second spell but was not being able to penetrate the Marlins defence.

In the 15th minute Yasawa capitalized allowing hooker Maikeli Sivo who came off the bench to score under the posts.

First five-eight Joseva Veitaukula kicked the conversion to lead 17-3.

Number eight Jone Baleidama scored and converted by Varayame Momo 24-3.

Centre Eliki Naikusa scored for Yasawa and Momo kicked the conversion.

Ovalau captain Sowani Saunitoga said: “This is our first time to play for the Bainimarama Shield. We thank our fans and we hope to make a mark next season.”
