SODELPA Complains Against Fiji Sun Reports On Party Meetings

The Social Democratic Liberal Party has lodged a police complaint against the Fiji Sun for allegedly breaching the Public Order Act.
In a statement, the party said it would also lodge a formal complaint to the Media Industry Development Authority.
The complaint lodged with the Fiji Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Department is against two senior news executives of this newspaper.
The party has cited dates on which articles were published by this newspaper, which it claimed either breached the Public Order Act, were false or were creating false insinuations.
Publisher Responds
Fiji Sun Publisher/CEO Peter Lomas said SODELPA president Ro Filipe Tuisawau complained to Police about what was legally checked before publication.
“It seemed Ro Filipe was merely trying to distract from the serious matters revealed in the Fiji Sun reporting,” he said.
“Nemani Delaibatiki and Jyoti Pratibha are two of the country’s best and most courageous journalists,” Mr Lomas added.
“Ro Filipe might be surprised how much of the praise for their current revelations came from within SODELPA itself.”
