Taichi Vakasama scooped gold for Fiji in the 200m breaststroke.
The 19 year-old Daliconi lad was optimistic of his chances as he is only one of three swimmers who have recorded below the Games record.
He stopped the clock at 2:14:98.
The games record stands at 2:17.06.
In April Vakasama competed in the New Zealand Open Long Course and had managed to 2:16.
