‘You Are The Chosen Ones’

President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote wished the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians side well for their Pacific Test Series and Pacific Nations Cup matches in preparation for the Rugby World Cup in September.
The John McKee-coached side begin their preparations against the Maori All Blacks tomorrow at Suva’s ANZ Stadium before travelling to Rotorua next week for the return match.
The Fijians then play four matches against Japan, Canada, Samoa and Tonga as part of the PNC Series.
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor and development manager Sale Sorovaki led the team’s i-Tatau (seeking blessing) from President Konrote at the State House in Suva yesterday.
He advised the players to stay focussed on achieving their goals throughout the preparation period and later at the RWC in Japan, this September.
He also congratulated them for making the squad, while also reminding them of their obligations as ambassadors of Fiji.

“Many are called but only a few are chosen. You are the chosen ones from the many who vied for a spot to represent our country,” he said.
“Being the 9th placed team in the world, I encourage you to give it your all and continue to do yourselves, your families and your country proud with your performance.
“Allow me also to give you some fatherly advice: remained focussed, listen to your coaches, play as a team and look after one another.
“Be great ambassadors on and off the field and always display good sportsmanship; accept victory with humility and defeat graciously.”
