Prosecution To Call 5 Witnesses In Attempted Murder Trial

 

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has indicated they will call five witnesses in the case of a military officer facing an attempted murder charge.

Rajiv Padyachi’s case was called before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on Thursday, however, Padyachi was not present in court.

Padyachi’s trial will start on October 7 and conclude on October 11.

The accused is alleged to have attempted to drown his 35-year-old partner while swimming at Colo-i-Suva pool

They had agreed to go for an early morning swim on September 15, 2018.

A team of Police officers heard the woman’s cry for help and managed to save her and arrested the accused.

The complainant sustained injuries during the alleged incident.

State prosecutor Sheenal Swastika, will call three Police officers who had intervened in the midst of the alleged act and saved the complainant along with the complainant and the medical doctor who had examined the complainant after the alleged incident.

The matter was adjourned for a pre-trial conference to August 14.
