Pacific Games: Athletics Win 5 Medals On Day 2 Of Competition

Fiji won 2 gold medals, 2 silvers and one bronze on the track and field yesterday.
Petero Veitaqomaki ran the Pacific Games 800m final with only one thing on his mind- his loss during the Coke Games in April. The Marist Brothers High School student won bronze with a time of 1:54.72.
“I just wanted to stamp my mark and to do my best,” he said. Alex Beddoes of Cook Island won gold 1:53.18.
In other results from the track and field:
- Shawntell Lockington won gold in the women’s high jump beating defending champion Rellie Kaputin from Papua New Guinea. She took gold with a jump of 1.68 metres.
- Heleina Young won silver in the women’s 100m final in a time of 11.82s. Toea Wisil of Papua New Guinea took home the gold 11.56s.
