National Federation Party’s 2018 General Election candidate Pradeep Chandra will engage the services of a Queen’s Counsel. Chandra is charged with one count of racial vilification or religious vilification under the Electoral Act

His choice to engage the services of the Queen’s Counsel was revealed when he appeared in the Ba Magistrates Court last Friday for mention.

The matter was called to check if his passport had been returned to the Court Registry as it had been released to him when he travelled to India. It was confirmed that it had been returned.

He was represented by his son and Defence lawyer, Vikram Chandra.

The Defence informed the Court that they would be engaging the services of a Queen’s Counsel Stephen Stanton QC, who will be present on the next date.

The matter was adjourned to November 14, to fix a hearing date.

It is alleged that Chandra made statements encouraging and inciting hatred towards the Muslim community in the country in June and July last year.
