A Great Man Gone But Not Forgotten
The late Dixon Seeto.

Fiji is mourning the loss of a great man, a man who had the growth of this nation in his heart, a man who people turned to for counsel, a man the tourism industry looked up to for his wisdom. Dixon Seeto will be missed, not only by the Seeto and Chan families but by every Fijian who was touched by his generosity.

He was a generous man. Always had a word of encouragement but always firm in his criticism.

His contribution to Fiji was such that in 2014 he was awarded with the Officer of the Order of Fiji medal in the General Division for his outstanding contribution in the tourism industry. He led the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association with a passion and his demise has left a huge gap which will not be easily filled.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in the condolence message from his wife Mary and him rightly said that: “Dixon leaves us with cherished memories of his warmth and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. And he leaves us with a legacy that will forever be etched in Fijian history and an impact that will span generations.”

As the Chair of the first-ever Tertiary Loans and Education Board, Dixon was well aware of what was needed in this area to assist young Fijians.

As the leader of Fijian-Chinese Community, he was always ready to lead the charge when the need arose.

Tourism Minister Premila Kumar remembers Dixon as a great leader and mentor who had contributed immensely to the developments of the Fijian tourism industry to what it is today.

He has also made many valuable contributions to Fiji’s business sector, education, politics and the greater Fijian economy.

The head of the country’s biggest tourism company Tony Whitton remembers him as the friend he could call when he needed advice. He was a great advocate for common and equal citizenry and his love for his country was unquestionable. His contribution in many sectors will not be forgotten.

A great man, gone but not forgotten.

Rest in love, my friend, till we meet again.
