Nineteen-year-old Alesi Qoro will advocate against domestic violence at the upcoming Bula Festival 2019 in Nadi.

The 59th Bula Festivals is set for July 27-August 3.

Ms Qoro, sponsored by Harmony Security Services, encourages the youths to, “Step out of your comfort zones and if you want something, go for it.

“The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre says Fiji has one of the highest rates of domestic violence cases in the Pacific.

“Communities should be provided with more information on domestic violence and abusers should be given harsher punishment.”

Aspiring to be a civil engineer, Ms Qoro is taking a year’s break from school before she begins her studies in Civil Engineering at the Fiji National University.

The Sabeto, Nadi, native has maternal links in Lau.

She supports the Bula Festival organisation because of what it stands for.

“The Bula Festival is a charitable event which supports people in need. The festival’s theme itself is ‘Hearts of Charity’, so we should have a heart for the people,” Ms Qoro added.

“We must give more and receive less and doing charity work and serving the community is one of many ways we can achieve it,” the former Swami Vivekananda College student said.

She lists her hobbies as playing volleyball, swimming, listening to music and outdoors activities.
