The people of Bua are encouraged to purchase commercial lots in the new Nabouwalu town.

This was confirmed by Roko Tui Bua, Aisake Sivo Nadumu yesterday.

It is understood that Government has invested $7.1million to develop Nabouwalu into a town.

Mr Nadumu said civil works at the new Nabouwalu Town site in Bua has begun.

“At the moment the province has a plan and we are trying to fundraise so that every tikina (clan) can get a commercial lot each,” Mr Nadumu said.

“Every  tikina is working towards raising $40,000 each because we want more people from Bua to invest in the new Nabouwalu Town site.

The province of Bua is made up of nine  tikina and 50 villages.

The nine  tikina are: Bua, Navakasiga, Lekutu, Wainunu, Solevu, Nadi, Vuya, Dama and Kubulau.

“We are grateful with this project because it will uplift the lives of the people of Bua,” he said.

“Once this project is completed a lot of businesses can invest in Nabouwalu because it is the entry point to Vanualevu.”

He said everything would be easier once Nabouwalu was developed.

“Vanualevu has no international port and everything is done in Viti Levu so hopefully with the new town everything could be made easier,” Mr Nadumu said.

“This is a really good opportunity for the people of Bua and the province is hoping that the people would invest.”

Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar during her tour early this week said the contractors have started with the development of the land.

“Consultants are working with the developer and the development processes. The idea is to develop this satellite town because Nabouwalu is very important from an economic point of view,” Mrs Kumar said.

Nabouwalu has a population of about 2000 people.

The development of Nabouwalu Town is Government’s investment in the province of Bua in Vanua Levu and will see a small trading jetty with supporting facilities developed to be a township.
