Retired Teacher, 64, Appears For Alleged Rape Of Granddaughter

A retired primary school teacher facing rape charges yesterday appeared at the High Court in Suva.

The 64-year-old is facing one count of rape of his granddaughter.

The accused appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

It is alleged that the accused earlier this year, in Suva, had allegedly raped his six-year-old granddaughter.

The prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Shirley Tivao, told the court that the State was yet to file information in the matter, before the accused’s plea could be taken.

She requested for 14 days to meet with the complainant prior to filing the information.

Justice Goundar granted 14 days to the prosecution and transferred the matter to be heard and for trial before Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

The matter was adjourned for mention to check on the information to August 12.

Bail was extended for the accused.
