Ministry Of Health Donates Wheelchair To Injured Mother

Health Ministry provides wheel chair to injured mother.

The Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete presented a wheelchair to Mrs. Esita Lewaivalu after being advised by Vision Fiji that it was an absolutely needed for her to move around.

Mrs. Lewaivalu was in her house with her two daughters which was blown off by the damaging destructive force winds of TC Winston and later disintegrated the house making them fall into a valley.

One of her daughters Katarina Bubu crawled fifty feet up to notify villages who came to their rescue and pulled the mother out but the other daughter did not survive.

Since then Mrs. Lewaivalu has difficulty in walking as she feels numb for the waist down after sustaining injuries to her collar bone and a wheelchair is the only suitable tool for her to move around.

While presenting the wheel chair Dr Waqainabete said “the Ministry has always responded to such calls from the people as we are duty bound to make health services readily available to all the people of Fiji and leaving no one behind”.

Meanwhile Mrs. Esita’s Daughter Katarina bubu has been nominated for the biennial Fiji Children’s Award for her act of bravery in saving the life of her mother.

She will be presented the award on the 26th of this Month at Nailuva Primary School in Rakiraki.
