One of Fiji’s inter-island shipping providers Patterson Brothers Shipping Company Limited will transport funeral hearse and three relatives free of charge for their Natovi, Vanua Levu, Koro and Ovalau routes.

A recent PBSCL statement said the idea was a result of a discussion between the company directors.

This they said was to help grieving families transport their loved ones to their final destinations without having to worry about additional funeral costs.

This revision of their service went into effect on Sunday, July 21, 2019.

“This move proves the company’s commitment in giving back to the communities and customers,” the statement said.

“On the same token PBSCL through their service is also bridging the gap between Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and Ovalau dwellers,” it said.

“We have met and discussed your requests regarding funeral assistance and concluded that the hearse carrying any dearly departed on their final journey home will not be paid. This service will be for all our routes that includes Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Ovalau and Koro.

“Three family members will also be granted one way passage free of charge to travel in our vessels.”

According to the statement, the remaining family members travelling with the entourage will be given group concession.

“We understand that death incurs pain and suffering and in these times of grief we stand ready to assist those going through these hard times.”

The two PBSCL inter-island roll on roll off vessels in operation now are the Spirit of Love and Spirit of Harmony.

Spirit of Altruism is on dry dock.
