The increase in theft and robbery cases around the country has left many innocent citizens living in state of fear for their lives.

Among other robbery incidents that are reported daily in the media a CCTV footage surfaced on social media showing a group of men robbing an unsuspected victim walking along Victoria Parade in Suva.

It showed members of the organised group pretending to be regular bystanders as the innocent victim approaches.

When the victim was within the group’s circle, the youths cornered the victim from all sides then beat and robbed him of his possessions.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the footage was captured last week and handed in by the business operator to Totogo Police Station personnel.

Police are closely investigating the matter.

Ms Naisoro said while the force did not have CCTV cameras in certain locations they monitored the situation from the command centre when such crimes happened.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho had confirmed earlier in the week that the spike in theft and robbery cases in the Suva and Nasinu areas resulted in the reshuffle of operations.

Members of the public have been urged to notify relevant authorities on any information that could lead to the arrest of the alleged suspects in organised crime groups.
