Three employees of Suva City Council have been granted bail by the Magistrates Court after being charged with theft.

Booking officer Peni Bale, 43, auditor Prashnil Singh, 25, and another employee Adriu Peni Volavola, 45, appeared before Magistrate Deepika Prakash yesterday.

They are alleged to have stolen $407.62 on July 25, 2019, from the Suva City Council office counting room with the intention to permanently deprive the Suva City Council of the same amount.

Singh was represented by lawyer Amrit Chand while Bale and Volavola opted to be represented by the Legal Aid Commission.

The charges were read to all three accused persons and they indicated that they had understood.

Magistrate Prakash set several conditions while granting bail.

The accused persons were granted bail on bail bond of $500 each and $500 for each of the three sureties.

They were ordered not to reoffend, reside at a fixed address and not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses.

They were ordered not to change their residential addresses.

The matter was adjourned for plea to August 15.
