Canadian rugby head coach Kingsley Jones believes playing the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians is the best test as they prepare for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The side arrived into the country yesterday ready to face the defending champions of the Pacific Nations Cup at the ANZ Stadium, in Suva this Saturday.

The side, currently ranked 21st , lost to the US Eagles in Colorado 19-47  over the  weekend

“Fiji got good and fantastic rugby players, great athletes, strong and fast and the progression they’ve made under the current coach is fantastic,” he said.

“They’ve been very well coached so it is a huge challenge for us. But it’s the one we prefer as we would be playing with a better team as .we want to measure ourselves.  It’s great preparation for us towards the Rugby World Cup. “

The side is in Pool B alongside All Blacks, Springboks, Italy and Namibia for the RWC.

“We will be facing the Springboks, All Blacks, Italy and this will be a very good challenge and I’m looking forward to enjoy it,” the Welshman added.

“As we all know the last time we played I think Fiji lost a couple of tries and we went down (57-17) in Narbonne in France (2017).

The side is without some notable players such as Taylor Paris (winger), and Jeff Hassler, (fullback).

“It’s great to have all the best players available to us but it was a challenge to be back in the team while some are not with the team due to injury,” he said.

“I’m sure we are really blessed and pleased to be here in Fiji to face a really tough test. In the coming days we will find out a lot of each other but there is still  58 days to go before we play Italy.

“We are still learning and putting things in place.

“It’s a tough travel but the boys are happy and laughing and enjoying being here so we will just try to transform that in to our game in the weekend.”

The side takes on the Flying Fijians at 5pm.
