Viliame Gadolo is assisting the Marist Brothers High School Under-18 rugby team ahead of their Vodafone Deans semifinal match against Queen Victoria School at Lawaqa Park this Saturday.

The former national rep and currently Fiji Rugby Union’s Elite Pathway Manager has been assisting the Red Fire team since the zonal competitions.

They were crowned the Southern Zone champions and beat Lelean Memorial School 26-22 in the Cup quarterfinal last week.

The boys from Kaunikuila dominated the set piece areas in particular the scrums where their big forwards were in control.

Marist U18 assistant coach Manasa Yavala said the focus now is to keep on improving.

“We have identified areas we need to work on and one of which is our scrum. We dominated upfront last week and we are fortunate to have Gadolo who has been with the team since the zonal meet.

“He has been working on our scrums and the old boys also pitch in,” Yavala said.

“We respect QVS, we know they will come out strong and we are going to give our best.”

It will be a rematch for the teams as they met last year in the U17 grade where MBHS won 25-21.

This Marist team has been playing together since the U14 grade and only reached the semifinal stage. But this year the school team want to break their four-year drought and reach the final.

Fullback and Kadavu native Vuate Karawalevu made the difference with four penalties and two conversions for the team last week.

“He’s fit and will start at No. 15 this Saturday,”Yavala said.
