Opportunists continue to use the busy visiting hours at Suva’s Colonial War Memorial Hospital to commit robberies within the premises as unsuspected victims are busy visiting their sick relatives.

The Divisional Police Commander South yesterday met CWM Hospital security personnel to enlist their help in working with Police by providing information about crime-related activities around the hospital premises.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Filipe Jitoko said they were trying to get those involved in petty crimes such as pickpocketing and theft, and criminals are likely to target people during the busy visiting hours.

SSP Jitoko said patients and their families had enough to deal with, and the onus was on Police and security officers to help each other by providing information that could help keep the hospital premises safe from those committing the opportunistic crimes.

SSP Jitoko urged the senior staff to push information through the group’s chat platform that was specifically set up to alert Police on crime-related issues that take place on their premises.
