Plea Deferred For 21 Year Old Man Charged With Murder Of 19 Year Old Partner

The 21-year-old man alleged to have murdered his 19-year-old partner at Colo-i-Suva on June 28 will take his plea on August 22.
Suliasi Fuata appeared at the High Court in Suva yesterday before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe for plea.
However, defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission, Shantel Hazelman, told the court that she was not able to meet with the accused person to obtain instructions for plea.
She told the court that on Monday, the Legal Aid team went to the Fiji Corrections Service Remand Centre in Suva, but the accused was not produced.
Ms Hazelman could not advise him about his plea and obtain instructions on the same.
She requested for time to advise Fuata on the plea.
It is alleged that Fuata on June 28, 2019, at Colo-i-Suva, murdered Salanieta Leba.
Ms Leba was rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
