The medical platoons, who were part of the Fiji Batch contribution to the Level One Plus Medical Facilities, arrived yesterday after their service with the United Nation Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights.

Director of Peace Support and Operation (RFMF), Lieutenant-Colonel Pacolo Luveni pinned General Service medals to the 21 medical personnel that served in the Middle East for a year.

Colonel Luveni acknowledged them for the sacrifice they made to leave their families behind and serve in the Middle East.

Medical team spokesperson Dr Victor Fesaitu said they would cherish the experience for the rest of their lives.

“We were looking after the Level One Plus Hospital on our mission. It has been a good experience. And this is our first duty that we will remember for the rest of our lives,” said Dr Fesaitu.

“There were lots of lessons in terms of work that we have learned and it was a great opportunity to run the main hospital for the United Nations.

“We had the opportunity to work with other nationals from other developed countries like the Nepalese, the Irish and the Indian contingents. We also learnt a lot from our RFMF soldiers. These are lessons and memories that we will cherish for a long time.”
