James Moore believes Japan’s unbeaten performance at the Pacific Nations Cup puts them on track for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in September.

The Sunwolves lock forward said they could not have asked for a better performance after beating the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians and Tonga and will play USA in the PNC decider on Saturday.

“We are just taking it one step at a time but we are obviously happy with the last two performances,” Moore said.

“But we have just got to keep getting better and start building more towards that goal which is trying to make it out of the pool stages at the RWC. We are just going to keep going week by week but we are really happy overall.”

The 29 year-old said it was really special moment for him playing for Japan.

“It was pretty emotional singing the national anthem and honoured to be playing for Japan.”

Born in Australia, Moore is adamant of a good result against the USA Eagles.

“We are pretty happy we have worked really hard on our line-out and defence.

“We were pretty good with that against Fiji but we had a tough time with the breakdown against Tonga and for me that is a work on as well.

“USA is getting better as a side, I think, they’re pretty big and physical and they are going to be a good opponent so we have to go prepare well.

“The size of their pack is very big so we just got to scrum like we always do, focus on the technical aspects.”

Meanwhile, over 15 media personnel from Japan should be covering the game which kicks off at 4.30pm at the ANZ Stadium , Suva on Saturday.
