Murder Charge For Husband of Dead Expat, To Appear In Court Today

Australian national Henri Lusaka has been ques­tioned by Police over the alleged murder of his wife.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that Mr Lusaka has been charged with one count of murder.

He will to appear in court today.

Mr Lusaka was discharged from the Colonial War Memo­rial Hospital last Thursday.

He was later questioned by the Crim­inal Investigations Department (CID) personnel.

Jennifer Downes, an employee of the United Nations World Food Programme, was found dead in her house at Ser­vice Street in Domain, Suva on the afternoon of July 23, by Police officers who were called to the scene.

According to Police, Mr Lusaka had allegedly attempt­ed to take his life and was admitted at CWM Hospital.

Police also said Ms Downes was an Australian national and that her husband, originally from Congo, was a sus­pect in the case. They have three children.

A statement from the United Nations in the Pacific ear­lier said Ms Downes had worked as a logistics officer for the organisation since 2017.

Ms Downes started her career as a logistician more than 10 years ago, first in the Democratic Republic of Congo, then in Australia and Vanuatu.
