Moore: Weather Hinders Road Work Completion Along Lami. More Delays
Weather continues to hinder road repair completion along Lami and Nadonumai.

The Fiji Roads Authority has lost four days of road repair works on the Queens Road between Nadonumai and Lami because of unfavourable weather.

In light of this, works that were expected to be completed today have been further extended to the end of this week, weather permitting, says chief executive officer Jonathan Moore.

“The one thing that rain does seriously affect is sealing – we have lost at least four days in the past week due to heavy rain,” he said.

“We were planning to seal today (Saturday) but it would have been wasted had we done it.

“We will be keeping off the road during peak hours but there could be congestion during the day.

“The FRA would prefer to lay the asphalt at night because the asphalt plant is not permitted to operate after 5pm and not before 8am.”

The road will continue to be reduced to a single lane from 9am to 3pm and from 8pm to 5am daily to allow works.

Earlier, last week the authority advised of the travelling delays that would occur as a result of the repairs.

It stressed that this would eventually become a long-term benefit for road users.

In a release the authority said: “We have repeatedly advised the general public through a public advisory that for certain periods in dry weather the road will be temporarily reduced to a single lane and a full traffic management will be present on site to guide motorists safely through the site.”
