A prominent lawyer in Suva accused of allegedly being in possession of illicit drugs has been remanded in custody by the Chief Magistrate.

Shazran Abdul Lateef, 58, appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili at the Magistrates Court in Suva during a special court sitting on Saturday.

He is facing one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and breach of bail conditions. Lateef was arrested on August 14, following a raid at his house in Nailuva Road, in Suva. He is alleged to have been found with white substances later tested positive for methamphetamine and dried leaves tested positive for marijuana.

He is also alleged to have breached his bail conditions for similar cases before the court.

The matter was adjourned for a bail ruling to be delivered by the Chief Magistrate on Friday.
