A 36-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a Police officer inside the Nakasi Police Station on the night of June 26, has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.

Veramu Dikidikilati Navuso appeared before Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe yesterday.

He is charged with one count of act with the intent to cause grievous harm.

The Police officer, Corporal Manoj Mani, sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly stabbed.

Corporal Mani was on duty when the suspect allegedly entered the station and stabbed the officer on the back of his head and his back with a small kitchen knife.

Defence lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission, Lavenia David, made an application for Navuso to be remanded at Saint Giles Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Justice Rajasinghe told both lawyers to inform the court on the proper procedures for the above.

The matter was adjourned to August 26.
