Meli Yonathan Ledua was crowned King and Mr Friendly North on Thursday for the 2019 Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North.

The 22-year-old was representing the Rotary Club of Labasa and had been advocating on “Pollution Disturbs the balance of Nature”.

Mr Ledua was overwhelmed being crowned King, but attributed his achievement to the support of the sponsors, families and especially his mother.

“It was an honour and privilege to be the second sibling to be part of the festival and use the platform to advocate a message that I am passionate about,” Mr Ledua said.

“I would continue to raise awareness by reaching out to communities and empower youth groups in raising the standards by giving back to nature for the future generation.

“I plan to work closely with the respective departments to continue to fight against pollution.

“Many thanks go to my sponsors as it has been a humble experience for me and to know more about the projects that have been carried out in the communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ledua’s mother, Alisi Dimuri was proud of her son.

“I knew my son would win when I heard his first speech, he was very confident and exposed his capabilities for the first time,” Ms Dimuri said.

“He is a humble boy at home and I haven’t seen him expose his talents before, but he really came out well and made us all proud of him,” she said.
