Leadership is not only for Government, but also required at  the provincial, district, village and family level; Bainimarama

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama told chiefs from Nadroga/Navosa that strong leadership in the iTaukei community would reflect in the lives of the people.

This was during the opening of the Traditional Leadership Curriculum Programme for Nadroga/Navosa at Nadave yesterday

The iTaukei people, he said, needed strong chiefs to lead them.

He said villagers and district elders should meet every now and then to look at the challenges their leaders were facing.

Strong leadership, he said, should start in the family.

The programme was organised by the iTaukei Affairs Board and the iTaukei Trust Fund. The curriculum for the programme was prepared by the University of the South Pacific.

Leadership, he said, was not only for Government, but also required at  the provincial, district, village and family level.

Another topic that he talked on was the challenges leaders were facing because of the ongoing developments in the country.

He said when people were engaged in developments, the lifestyle of the iTaukei people seemed to be forgotten.

“Young iTaukei chiefs should be well versed with what was happening around them and make good decisions,” PM Bainimarama said.

“This is a reason why this programme was organised for you.”

He reminded them of the iTaukeki Affairs vision – to strengthen the focus on supporting Fijian family values.

The Prime Minister said when the focus was on building strong family values it would lead to a united and happy family as well as a better Fiji.
