Fiji Airways Flying Fijians senior assistant coach Tabai Matson believes that Saturday’s clash against Tonga at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand, is a no joke.

The Chiefs backline coach in this year’s Super Rugby knows what to expect when taking on the Tongans.

“It is really an important game,” the former Flying Fijian and All Blacks centre said.

“We really want to perform well in our last official Test match before the World Cup.

“It is a Pacific Island challenge against one of our old foes. It is really important because Eden Park is going to be a home game for Tonga.

“So we are expecting a very hostile crowd and it’s really an important game before we take on the Wallabies.”

Matson is also impressed with the set of players in the current team compared to the 1999 Rugby World Cup.

“These group of boys are much better than in my years. They are really experienced players.”

Matson said they were conversing about the selection of the team to play Tonga.

“There have been a lot of selection debate, which is great. It shows the depth and the quality of players we have across all positions now. Fiji Rugby is right in a good place.

“Clearly we have high expectations and we want to make sure that our standards are high everyday so we can perform well in every match we play now.”

The Dominiko Waqaniburotu captained-side had its first hit-out session at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

“We have worked on a lot of things specific for the World Cup. So we are feeling very positive. The boys were tired after last week sessions where we trained really hard for six days.

“And today brings another challenge so we are back focused on the match against Tonga at Eden Park,” Matson said.
