Police presence on the streets of Suva City at night remains high.

The law enforcers have been moving around in numbers at night to keep the capital city’s streets.

Nightclubs in the city close at 5am but Police continue to patrol the city in vehicles as the new day starts to break.

On Friday and Saturday night, there was an increased Police presence in the city as they are normally the busiest nights.

With a high number of people in the city on these nights, Police presence is also beefed up.

The Police operation started about three weeks ago after cases of mugging and robberies in the city were highlighted in mainstream and social media.

A video showing someone being mugged went viral on social media and with other reports, Police started the operation.

Some Police officers on patrol in the city on Friday night said there were no reports of mugging or robberies in the city in the past two weeks.

Harmindar Singh, a restaurant owner on Victoria Parade, also welcomed the increase in Police patrols.

Mr Singh said he could see that people felt safe walking around in the city at night or even spending time at the foreshore or parks.
