Former Lawyer Wants Drug Charges Dropped

Former Suva lawyer Shazran Abdul Lateef is expected to make representations to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for charges against him to be dropped.
Lateef, 58, appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday and his lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo, told the court that there were no admissions during his caution interview.
Lateef is facing one count each of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and breach of bail conditions.
It is alleged that Lateef on August 14, this year, in Raiwaqa, Suva, was found in possession of 0.0063 grams of white crystal substances known as methamphetamine, an illicit drug.
He is also alleged to have breached his bail conditions.
Mr Vosarogo also told the court that he had filed an application with the High Court registry to revise the decision of the Magistrates Court not to grant Lateef bail.
The matter was adjourned to September 17.
