Taxi Driver Fronts Court For Death Of Nakasi Man On Road

A 39-year-old taxi driver who allegedly caused the death of a 71-year-old man in Nakasi over the weekend has been remanded in custody by the Magistrates Court in Nasinu.

Lavin Yogesh Lal appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele yesterday charged with one count each of:

  • Dangerous driving causing death,
  • Failure to comply with requirements following an accident and
  • Driving a motor vehicle without being a holder of a valid driving licence.

Police prosecutor Constable Setareki Mocevakaca served the accused with full phase disclosures and objected to bail on the grounds of high public interest and pending matters of the accused.

The matter has been adjourned for mention on September 10.
