Singh Urge Businesses to Vie for the Excellence in Business Leadership Award to Be Recognised

CBS Power Solutions (Fiji) general manager Amit Singh is urging businesses to vie for the Excellence in Business Leadership Award.
Last year, during the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards Mr Singh was awarded the Excellence in Business Leadership Award sponsored by Golden Manufacturers.
Below are the excerpts from an interview with Mr Singh in the count down to this year’s awards:
Can you talk about this awards, how did you achieve it?
It’s a well-deserved award for the company and in particular for me it was an extremely emotional moment and a huge achievement receiving Excellence in Business Leadership award in 2018.
In 2017 we celebrated our 10 years achievement of Excellence, Experience and Expertise and in 2018 we were recognised through the Prime Minister’s International Award, it was a timely and much needed award to keep us motivated and continue to help the local economy by getting foreign revenue through Renewable Energy Projects.
What are some of the new initiatives your company is doing now?
The key initiatives are youth and women empowerment, technical capacity building, awareness on clean energy solutions and business expansion into other sectors and services in order to provide more employment to local Fijians.
Our success is based on 100 per cent local resources and we are extremely proud of this.
Most of our employees are below 35 years and this year we have hired female licensed electrician and electrical engineer to work on Renewable energy projects in Fiji and around Pacific Island Countries.
How has the award given to you that changed your business outlook?
The Excellence in Business Leadership award provided a boost to our business in many ways.
Customer confidence, improved supplier relationship, interest from individuals and businesses to partner with us in renewable energy project delivery, morale boost for the employees who are key to our success and fuel our company.
Talk about your company?
CBS Power Solutions (Fiji) started business in year 2006 in Fiji.
We started with only two staffs and have grown rapidly employing more than 50 permanent Fijian employees as of December 2016.
Our vision was to “Make Basic Power Accessible to all People”.
What is your main focus?
Our focus is to help businesses improve their productivity levels and to achieve financial, economic and environmental benefits and to help individuals and poor improve their living standards.
This to be achieved by working more with Renewable Energy Sources and provide cost effective, highly efficient and affordable power solutions plus help reduce Green House Gas Emissions (GHG).
How many offices do you have?
We have three offices in Fiji, Labasa, Ba and Valelevu, being the head office for the Pacific.
As one of the most dispersed regions in the world, the Pacific faces unique challenges in providing affordable and accessible electricity with a heavy reliance on diesel-fueled generators in many areas to power homes and businesses.
Our product and services are aligned to meet the needs of rural communities and our focus is off-grid unlike other service providers who concentrate on grid connect systems. Significant percentage of Fijians stay in rural areas and are often deprived and have difficulty accessing affordable power systems, we provide them with affordable, economical and sustainable power systems.
We remain dedicated and focused at all times despite the challenges.
What will be your advice to those who are applying for this award?
A Prime Ministers International Business award is a prestigious award and recognition and Excellence in Business leadership is one of the unique categories because it recognises the individual plus the associated entity at once.
The award rewards both the leaders driving the business and the employees because there is no leader without people.
From my understanding the leadership award is also the award for the employees which the leader leads and this provides extreme motivation and dedication which empowers the business and I am sure we all need that because its crucial contributor towards success.
Please do apply for this award, if you have applied in the past please reapply because good leaders will always get recognised.
