The Vodafone Fijian U23 football lost 0-2 in their first friendly match against the Singapore Olympic side on Friday night.

Coach Marika Rodu said the side lacked proper game plan which resulted in the poor performance.

“Players took time to settle in and we couldn’t find the right rhythm. We gave away a nasty goal in the first half which could have been avoided,” Rodu

“We worked hard in our defence and still weren’t aggressive enough to do damage to the opposition.

“We will try to improve in the return match on Monday.”

Players like Kishan Sami, Scott Wara, Savenaca Baleidrokdroka, Ivan Kumar, Jeshal Kumar, Bruce Hughes and Patrick Joseph started.

The Olympic qualifier will be held in Fiji from September 21 to October 5. Fiji play Tonga in their first match on September 22 at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the 2020 Olympics in Japan next year.
