Parliamentarians from Fiji’s oldest political party, the National Federation Party, will return for debates in the November sittings, confirms party leader Biman Prasad.

This comes after Mr Prasad and NFP member Lenora Qereqeretabua joined MPs from the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and walked out of Parliament on Friday when their motion to suspend the Prime Minister for two years was defeated.

While Mr Prasad did not make any comments on Friday’s walkout or on NFP president and MP Pio Tikoduadua’s suspension, he did confirm that they would attend the next Parliament sittings which begin on November 12.

NFP boycotted last week’s Parliament sittings and only attended last Friday’s session.

Mr Tikoduadua was the only NFP member who was part of parliamentary standing committees.

It is unclear for now whether any other NFP members will fill in for him during these next six months.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Sitiveni Rabuka declined to make any comments on Friday’s walkout.

Whether SODELA members will return to Parliament in November or attend any of the standing committee meetings, still remains in question.
