Two little girls are living in fear after a daring robbery at their home on Friday night.

Since the incident, Shaila Kumar, 10 and Zarine Kumar, 4, reportedly start shivering when it gets dark and they now follow their mother Asinate Kumar around the house.

Ms Kumar said her daughters have not slept well because they were frightened after the robbery.

Ms Kumar, a widow, was at her home on Nacara Street in Vatuwaqa, Suva at about 8 pm on Friday when two youths entered the house.

“The door was open as Shaila had gone out to feed the dogs and Zarine was sitting inside with my mobile phone and my wallet next to her,” she said.

“I was baking cakes when the two young boys entered with t-shirts tied around their face and wearing hats.

“One of them grabbed the phone from Zarine and picked the wallet and they ran away, jumping over the fence into the neighbour’s compound.

“I raised the alarm and some people chased the two boys who ran towards Vatuwaqa. I also reported the matter to Police.”

Ms Kumar said the people who chased the two suspects identified them to Police officers.

She said the incident had scared her two daughters.

“They keep saying that the robbers will come again,” she said.

“I have had sleepless nights since Friday, but I try and get as much rest as I can during the day because I have to stay awake at night for my daughters.

“I thank God that nothing serious happened to my two little girls.”

She said her wallet had a little more than $200 which she earned from her cake sales.

“For the past 11 years this is the first time that I have been robbed,” she said.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro was yet to respond to queries on the matter yesterday.
