A 46-year-old security officer from Tamavua appeared at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday for allegedly being in possession of illicit drugs.

Daniel Deo appeared before Magistrate Seini Puamau during the special court sitting.

He is charged with one count of possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that Deo on September 5, 2019, at Namadi in Suva, was in possession of 0.3963 grams of methamphetamine, an illicit drug.

The charge was read to the accused to which he told the court that he understood. He opted to be represented by a lawyer from the Legal Aid Commission.

Police prosecutor Constable Walter Taito served the accused with a full phase of disclosures and did not object to the bail, however, he sought a reporting order and two suitable sureties.

Magistrate Puamau granted Deo bail on the sum of $1000 and two sureties bail bond on the sums of $1000 each.

She ordered the accused not to re-offend while on bail, reside at a fixed address and not to change his address without the leave of the court, not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses and attend all court dates.

Deo was also ordered to report to the Valelevu Police Station every Saturdays between 5 am and 8 pm.

Magistrate Puamau also said to the accused that if he (Deo) breached any of his bail conditions without a reasonable excuse, he may face a consequence.

The matter was adjourned for mention on October 24.
