Nasilasila Trial: Assessors Return With Not Guilty Verdict

The three assessors have returned to the High Court in Lautoka with a unanimous verdict of not guilty for former 7s rugby player, Amenoni Nasilasila, this hour.

This is in the trial of former national rugby 7s player, Nasilasila had commenced on Monday and concluded on Tuesday with the prosecution calling three witnesses, and the defence called one witness.

Nasilasila, 27, appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Lautoka for the summing up of the trial.

Nasilasila is alleged to have raped a 24-year-old woman from Olosara, Sigatoka, on December 22, 2018.

Nasilasila has pleaded not guilty of the charge.

The State prosecution is represented by counsels from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Mehzabeen Khan and Moira Konrote.

Nasilasila is represented by counsels Mark Anthony and Unaisi Baleilevuka.

Judgment will be delivered by Justice Goundar tomorrow at 10am.
