Nasilasila Case: Judge Overturns Assessors Opinion, Finds Rugger Guilty

The High Court in Lautoka has delivered a verdict of guilty for former 7s rugby player, Amenoni Nasilasila.

This is in the trial of rugby player, Nasilasila which commenced on Monday and concluded on Tuesday with prosecution calling three witnesses. Defence only called one witness.

The three assessors had returned with a verdict each of not guilty on Thursday.

However, Judge Justice Daniel Goundar has accepted the prosecutions case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted the former 7s star for the offence of rape today.

Nasilasila, 27, appeared before Justice Goundar at the High Court in Lautoka for the Court’s judgment on the case.

Nasilasila is alleged to have raped a 24-year-old woman from Olosara, Sigatoka, on December 22, 2018.

Nasilasila had pleaded not guilty of the charge.

The State prosecution is represented by counsels from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Mehzabeen Khan and Moira Konrote.

Nasilasila is represented by counsels Mark Anthony and Unaisi Baleilevuka.

The matter has been stood down for both parties to file their respective submissions.
