Advisory After Mosque, Shop Attack

A mosque and shops in Nausori were vandalised on Thursday night.

Fiji Muslim League president Hafiz Ud-Din yesterday confirmed the incident to the Fiji Sun.

In light of the graffiti incident, the league has issued an advisory to all its affiliates, asking them to take necessary precautions.

“After Christchurch, we don’t want to take any chances,” he said.

Mr Ud-Din was referring to two mosque attacks in Christchurch in March this year, in which 51 people died and 49 were injured.

Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian man, described in media reports as a white supremacist, was arrested and initially charged with 51 murders, 40 attempted murders, and engaging in a terrorist act.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Fiji Muslim League has also issued a memo to all its schools to make appropriate security measures in light of the rumours of public unrest.
