The demand for accommodation in Suva has prompted owners of Yue Lai Hotel to expand.

Close to $10 million is invested in the Yue Lai Hotel expansion project on Suva’s, Bau Street.

In an earlier interview with hotel director, FuGang Zhao said the new buildings would include a nine-floor building and a seven-floor building.

When completed next year it will employ about 65 more staff.

The hotel is sitting on the site of the former iconic Noble House and visible from the new Flagstaff Plaza.

Mr FuGang said the expansion work features two newly build hotels which will have 84 rooms and 12 two-bedroom fully self-contained units

“The total estimated cost for both buildings is around $10 million,” Mr FuGang said.

“The steel structure is being done by my own equity and I will be looking at securing funding from the bank for the completion of the project,” he said.

“All 84 rooms are deluxe rooms and we are planning to furnish the apartment units and rooms with high-quality furniture.

“I’m looking at employing about 60 to 65 staff for the hotel operation.”

Mr FuGang said the location of the hotel was a walking distance to the main business hub.

“The location is close to all major attraction, walking distance to the city, Court House, museum, Albert Park and it is a few minutes’ drive to the port of Suva, Laucala Bay sports facility and the University of the South Pacific,” he said.

“We also target Fijians who are living abroad and tourists coming to Fiji for vacation.

“I’m thankful to the Government for bringing in more tourists as this would contribute a lot to the Fijian economy.”

Mr FuGang said they currently employ 30 staff.

The project is expected to be completed late next year.
