The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team failed to capitalise on their lead in the Cup final of the Oktoberfest 7s and allowed South African side to snatch the 12-10 win.

Playing in Munich, Germany, yesterday, the Gareth Baber coached- side led 10-5 at half time after tries from seasoned forward Apenisa Cakaubalavu and robust debutant Vuniona Vuki.

The Blitzboks scored early in the second half to young Kurt-lee Arendse in the dying stages of the first half. Captain Siviwe Soyizwapi scored in the last minute to seal the win.

Laced with development players the Fijians displayed exceptional skills, guts and discipline to play against the top teams of the HSBC World Seven Series.

Baber said it was the first time for the players to be playing together and he was happy with their contribution to the team.

The young side used their physicality and speed to match the oppositions which actually rattled most of them during the tournament.

Captain Terio Tamani played well in the semi-final and scored the winning try at the death against arch rivals New Zealand.

The 14 12 win cemented their place in the final while South Africa thumped Germany 31-17 in the other semi-final.
