Sigatoka Woman Who Murdered 14 Year Old Sister In Law Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

A 32-year-old woman will spend the rest of her life in prison for murdering her 14-year-old sister-in-law in Sigatoka in 2015.
The mother of two was found guilty and convicted. She appeared yesterday before High Court Judge, Justice Rangajeeva Wimalasena, at the High Court in Lautoka.
While sentencing the accused, Justice Wimalasena said: “Your horrific actions demonstrate the complete disregard of the norms of a civilised society.
“This is another case where domestic violence has escalated to a level which has finally cost the life of a young child.
“The facts of this case clearly reveal that if the family members, neighbours and the teachers at the school took timely action, this death could have been prevented.”
Justice Wimalasena said the crime the accused committed breached the trust between her and the sister-in-law, and she was supposed to guide and protect the victim.
The woman was sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment, with no minimum terms set.
