The Turaga na Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, says drug awareness programmes, especially on methamphetamine, must be tailor-made for a community.

The paramount chief of Macuata said this while acknowledging the efforts of authorities on the war on drugs.

Ratu Wiliame noted this as he wrapped up his consultations with chiefs in the province which targeted methamphetamine and ways to curb the issue in the North.

“There has to be some awareness programme that is realistic to identify the signs of and the impacts of its consumption,” he said.

“I believe that the relevant authorities should now be working together with pharmaceutical companies, the Police, social welfare and respective stakeholders and work towards a solution to educate the community on the impacts and effects of this so-called meth.

“That has been an issue and the highlights of the country and a lot of crime has been associated with drugs,” he said.

“I have been reliably informed that there has been some meth activity in the North and I just want to tell them, DON’T,” he sternly said.

“From the Vanua’s point, a drug is a NO-NO, considering the impact, once it reaches the villages- which is the scariest and dangerous part of the equation.,” Ratu Wiliame said.
