Fiji Bulikula: First Women’s Rugby League Named, Logo Launched

President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote on Wednesday night officially launched the first ever Fiji National Rugby League Women’s team name and logo– Fiji Bulikula.
Speaking at the event, the President said, “tonight we are creating history in Fiji’s sporting legacy now by feathering our cap as a proud sporting nation.”
In June, the Bulikula played their first international Test match against Papua New Guinea Orchids at the Leichhardt Oval in Sydney, Australia where they won 28-0.
Bulikula is the i-Taukei name for a rare type of golden cowrie that traditionally signifies chiefly status and the adoption of the name has sentimental meaning for FNRL.
The name was put forward by the late FNRL executive chairman Peni Musunamasi.
The Bulikula team will participate in the Prime Minister’s XIII rugby league set for October 11 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
