It is important to remember that plastics make its way into the ocean, no matter where it’s being thrown from.

This is the message Miss Savusavu Town Council Selepa Teniku Sua will highlight during this year’s Vodafone Hidden Paradise Savusavu Carnival next week.

Her message is based on the theme: ‘Protecting the Ocean and You Protect Yourself, the importance of a plastic free ocean’.

Ms Sua is a student at the University of the South Pacific, studying Bachelor of Arts majoring in Management, Public Administration and Human Resources.

The contestant from Kioa said the use of plastics could be reduced by recycling it properly and supporting the Government’s plans to ban single – use plastics in Fiji by 2020.

The Vodafone Hidden Paradise Savusavu Carnival will be held from September 30 to October 5.
