Bus Crashes Into Taxi, Causes Roadblock

An accident involving a bus carrying passengers temporarily blocked a main road leading into Suva City yesterday.
A bus travelling down Edinburgh Drive had difficulty maneuvering a sharp bend and hit a taxi, which was the last vehicle in the queue heading into the city.
The ensuing traffic jam at Rodwell Road and Edinburgh Drive caused a long queue extending halfway of Edinburgh Drive.
A driver near the scene said.
“It looks like the bus driver did not anticipate standstill traffic after the bend on the slippery road as a result of the rain,” said Nitesh Pillay of Samabula.
“The bus travelling to Suva, spun 90-degrees to the right and stopped metres away from the edge of the cliff.”
Police said no one was injured.
Another driver Rupeni Siga said it was lucky that the bus did not hit the car head on.
