Labasa Man Says, Business Was Never a Choice

From a very humble beginning to a businessman, Shiu Sundar said he never regretted the choices he made in life.
The 34-year-old man from Qelewaqa in Labasa said he wanted to become a pilot, but business was never a choice.
In 2008, he opened a DVD shop to finance his pilot course which he started in 2009.
After two years at pilot school, Mr Sundar saw that his DVD business was flopping so he made a decision to give up his dream career and return to Savusavu to look after his sinking business.
When asked if he wanted to pursue his dream job, he said: “I feel better here”.
From that DVD shop, Mr Sundar is now the owner and director for Suntek Fiji (PTE) Limited – trading as Suntek supermarket, Suntek printing press and Suntek distributors.
Since 2008, he had always been operating his business in Savusavu. Yesterday, he opened a new supermarket and his printing press in Vulovi, Labasa, with an investment of more than $80,000.
It was his first investment at his home town.
“I have always been in Savusavu and today I open a shop in Labasa and this was a good opportunity for me.”
He added that his focus was always to serve his customers.
He also guaranteed that his supermarket was one of the cheapest in town.
The former Labasa Muslim College student had provided more than 35 jobs including the 15 new jobs he provided in Labasa yesterday after opening his outlet.
Meanwhile, Suntek Fiji PTE LTD is also the major sponsor of the Labasa Football team. Yesterday, Mr Sundar also handed over a cheque of $5000 to the team manager, Nilesh Lal and his team.
Mr Lal said the donation was timely and they appreciated the support from the company.
