150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Today marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

The freedom activist’s birthday is celebrated globally to celebrate his dominant role in India’s struggle for independence.

M.K Gandhi is associated with many names by many of his followers: Mahatma (a great soul), Bapuji (endearment for father in Gujarati) and even Father of the Nation.

Bapuji was born on October 2, 1869 in Gujarat, then known as Porbandar, British India.

Mahatma Gandhi lived his life with acceptance and practice of truth, non-violence, vegetarianism, simplicity and faith in God.

He served as an inspiration to many political leaders all over the world, including Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr, and Aung San Suu Kyi.

The enthusiastic students of India’s HB Kapadia School came together to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary in Gujarat, Ahmedabad today.

They made a picture of Mahatma Gandhi with ‘150 words that describe him’.

Around 150 students also dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi to celebrate the great late activist’s glories.

‘Gandhi Jayanti’ is a national holiday, celebrated by India and is also observed as a Day for Nonviolence.
