Father’s Big Plans for Young Family End in Tragedy

It was only two months ago when Sunia Cama, his wife Maraiah and their three children had moved to Nausori for a better life.
But tragedy soon struck leaving behind a devastated family.
The 30-year-old, who resides at Vusuya in Nausori, is the latest alleged drowning victim.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Mr Cama left his home to dive for freshwater mussels (kai) near Manoca on Tuesday. When he failed to return home, a report was lodged with Police through Crime Stoppers on Wednesday afternoon.
She said a team of divers from the Police Special Response Unit were immediately deployed to search along the river. The divers failed to find him.
Mr Cama’s body was found floating near Vunisei Village, Toga in Rewa, yesterday.
Mrs Cama, 28, recalled the last conversation with her husband.
“He told me to make roti because he wanted to eat kai (mussels),” she said.
“He said he would go and get the kai and the roti should be ready when he came back.”
The couple had moved to Vusuya from Nadonumai, Delainavesi.
Mr Cama had plans to farm and create a better future for their children-nine-year-old Jacob, four-year-old Mili and two-year-old Elizabeth.
“He was a gentleman. He never raised a hand on me despite tough times. He loved me and adored his children,” said, Mrs Cama.
“I don’t know what to do. I cannot think properly right now. But I must be strong for my children.”
Mr Cama, the sole breadwinner of his family was from Lakeba in Lau.
His family will meet today to decide on the funeral plans.
